Welcome to Radio Cab, the largest cab company in the CSRA
for over 60 years. Our company was founded in 1937
by Edwin L. Douglass Sr.. Back then the company was called Valley
Coaches Inc. We started out as a bus business, shuttling people around
Augusta and Aiken areas. |
| The buses made
stops every hour. It came to be that people were missing the buses and had to wait
another hour before the next bus would come around. We decided to buy 8 cars and run
them between hourly pick-ups. Well, the mayor of Aiken at that time was in the taxi
business and didn't like the idea of us running cars in that area. He informed
us not to run the cars back and forth into his area. He told us if it continued, he
would stop our buses from running into Aiken. We pulled the cars out of that area
and had 8 cars that were of no use. We decided to make them into taxi cabs. We
were one of the first cab companies to have two-way
radio dispatch. That is how we got the name Radio Cab.
See, back in the 30's and 40's, drivers had to sit in a line and wait for a call at
a call box. Then they would go get the customer. We now have full
digital computer dispatch. We have grown from 8 cabs to a fleet of 90
cabs and 4 multi-purpose cabs. We are the largest
cab company in the CSRA. |
